II. Development Objectives
In response to the practical needs of modern logistics development in China, the Jilin University Institute of Modern Logistics integrates teaching and research while fostering a sustainable academic team. Through the Institute's platform, the research capabilities of its members are fully mobilized to address the practical needs of society and industry and to solve theoretical and applied problems arising in the development of China's modern logistics system. The Institute provides a theoretical basis for government logistics development plans, policies, and regulations, and offers technical services to enterprises in formulating logistics development strategies and designing logistics processes.
III. Research Areas
The principal research field of the Jilin University Institute of Modern Logistics is modern logistics system planning and its enabling technologies. Its four major research areas are logistics system planning and design, logistics management and engineering technologies, supply chain management, and logistics information system analysis and design.
IV. Overview
Established in June 2001, the Jilin University Institute of Modern Logistics was among the earliest research institutions in Jilin Province to engage in the research and application of modern logistics planning and key technologies. The Institute was developed on the basis of Transportation Planning and Management, a Key Discipline of Jilin Province, and places equal emphasis on teaching and research. It is supported by a multilevel academic framework comprising doctoral and master's degree programs in Transportation Planning and Management, and undergraduate programs in Transportation. In 2003 and 2005, the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing established at the Institute the Jilin Province Logistics Professional Qualification Certification Examination Center and the Jilin Province Examination Center for ITC International Certification and Registered Professional Qualifications in Procurement and Supply Chain Management. These professional certification examinations have supported talent development and workforce capability enhancement in the logistics industry.
The Institute has completed more than 50 logistics-related research projects funded or commissioned by national agencies, provincial and ministerial authorities, local governments, and industry partners. These projects have covered modern logistics system development strategies and related policies, road freight and logistics development planning, freight terminal location and layout planning, and internal logistics system planning for enterprises. The Institute has educated nearly 500 undergraduate students and approximately 200 graduate students in logistics engineering, published more than 200 academic papers in logistics, and produced eight textbooks.
V. Research Team
The Jilin University Institute of Modern Logistics currently has 15 researchers, including seven professors, six associate professors, one senior engineer, and one lecturer. Thirteen members hold doctoral degrees. In recent years, Institute personnel have completed ten government-sponsored overseas visiting-scholar assignments or participated in international academic conferences, and the Institute has repeatedly invited overseas experts to deliver lectures.
