Overview:
The Traffic Engineering Laboratory was established in 1992. It currently occupies more than 300 square meters and has fixed assets valued at over RMB 5 million. The laboratory has 25 teaching and research staff members, including 23 full-time faculty members and two full-time laboratory instructors. It also hosts one Dingxin Postdoctoral Fellow and more than 80 master’s and doctoral students. The laboratory offers more than 20 laboratory and practical courses for undergraduate students, covering core subjects such as Traffic Engineering, Traffic Analysis, Transportation Planning, and Traffic Management and Control, as well as specialized areas such as Integrated Multimodal Transportation Simulation, Smart Highways, and Vehicle–Infrastructure Cooperation. It also provides more than 70 practical teaching projects and activities. Since its establishment, the laboratory has remained committed to improving teaching quality and developing distinctive approaches to practical education. Guided by the principles of Emerging Engineering Education and high standards of academic development, it aligns its teaching activities with industry trends and major national priorities in transportation. Through continuous curriculum development and educational innovation, the laboratory strives to provide a leading platform for practical education in transportation engineering.
At present, the laboratory’s practical teaching activities focus on urban traffic management and control, microscopic traffic simulation, vehicle–infrastructure cooperation, intelligent driving, low-altitude data collection using unmanned aerial vehicles, and intelligent data recognition. These activities form a multidimensional practical teaching system that integrates ground transportation with low-altitude transportation. Following the educational philosophy of developing students’ practical skills comprehensively and upholding a tradition of rigorous inquiry and innovation, the laboratory continually incorporates advances in intelligent transportation and the low-altitude economy into its teaching. It has established a comprehensive practical training pathway encompassing professional orientation internships, laboratory sessions for core courses, course projects, integrated software-based practice, and graduation projects. Drawing on its strong theoretical foundations and research achievements, the laboratory’s teaching team continuously enriches course content and transforms research outcomes in transportation into educational resources. By integrating disciplinary strengths with practical teaching, the laboratory is committed to cultivating high-caliber, interdisciplinary transportation professionals with strong capabilities in systems analysis, innovative practice, and the solution of complex engineering problems.
